Indiana University's 26th Annual ArtsWeek, scheduled for February Feb. 18-28 (2010), will focus on the theme "Arts and the Environment." ArtsWeek is an annual winter festival showcasing the many levels of artistic expression in Bloomington and on the IU campus. Sponsored in part by the IU President's Office and the IU Office of the Vice Provost for Research, ArtsWeek offers dozens of exhibitions, performances and family-friendly events featuring many modes of artistic expression.

Men defy stereotypes in defining masculinity
Men interviewed in a large international study reported that being seen as honorable, self-reliant and respected was more important to their idea of masculinity than being seen as attractive, sexually active or successful with women. "Many meanings, positive and negative, are attached to the term, 'masculinity,'" said Julia Heiman, director of The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University and an author of this study.

IU researchers find vibrator use to be common, linked to sexual health
Two Indiana University studies conducted among nationally representative samples of adult American men and women show that vibrator use during sexual interactions is common, with use being reported by approximately 53 percent of women and 45 percent of men ages 18 to 60. Not only is vibrator use common, but the two studies also show that vibrator use is associated with more positive sexual function and being more proactive in caring for one's sexual health.

Hormones and brain activity: Kinsey Institute study sheds light on facial preferences
Scientists have long known that women's preferences for masculine men change throughout their menstrual cycles. A new study from Indiana University's Kinsey Institute is the first to demonstrate differences in brain activity as women considered masculinized and feminized male faces and whether the person was a potential sexual partner. The researchers identified regions of the brain that responded more strongly to masculinized faces and demonstrated that differences between masculinized and feminized faces appeared strongest when the women were closer to ovulating.
